Creating a News article
- Select Create > News in the Drupal administrator menu (in the top left corner).
- Enter a Title, e.g. ‘CFMEU has a new website’.
- Branch: Select the appropriate branch that the news article belongs to. If using a branch login, this option will not appear.
- Main content: Place your main content here.
- Image field: Use this field if you wish to have an image in the top-right side of your news article. The maximum filesize is 8 MB, the allowed extensions are .jpg, .gif and .png. Images larger than 800x800 pixels will be scaled. To upload an image click 'browse'. A 'file upload' window should up. Select the image you wish to upload onto the website and then click 'open'. Click 'upload' to upload your image.
- Image caption: This is an optional field and only necessary if you have an image. If you would like a caption beneath your image, insert text into the field. [doesn't work - get it sorted]
- Read more field: unclick this if link is to Dave Noonan Message page. Add line with Read more of Dave Noonan's message with link to current DN Message page.
- Menu link title: This is the title you would like the title to be dislayed as. It is the link text corresponding to this item, that should appear in the menu. Leave this blank if you do not wish to add this post to the menu.
- Parent item: This is where you would like your page to be displayed in the menu. Please select the item you wish your new page to be displayed under. The maximum depth for an item and all its children is fixed at 9. Some menu items may not be available as parents if selecting them would exceed this limit.
- Weight: Where you would like your item to be ranked in the menu list. This is optional. The heavier items will sink and the lighter items will be positioned nearer the top.
- Order of news stories on home page is by date created or modified (shown in descending order by date uploaded – latest at the top. If you are altering a news story a few days after it was published, or uploading additional stories on the same day and wish to maintain a particular order in the arrangement, then use the authoring tab - bottom left on the Create a News Story page.
To edit a story published earlier, simply enter the date of the original eg. story published Feb 10, 2010 being added to website on Feb 20, 2010 should have authored date of: 2010-2-10 - it will then appear in appropriate position by date sequence in the News Archive. Eg two stories on Feb 20, 2010 - story 1 authored at 2010-02-20 07-00 Second story uploaded at 2pm but you want to run second on list of In the Press items - author as 2010-02-20 06.00. - Getting correct date for news stories published afteroriginal press release date. Go to Manage - Content - Filter type - News - then click on article you want to edit. Scroll to bottom 'Authoring Information' tab in the 'Authored on' field. Enter the date you want it to be created. Then save news story.
Make sure you keep the date in the correct format when you modify it (i.e. Format: 2009-08-15 17:04:59 +1000.)
TIP: When inserting a teaser break in a news article, remember to only insert your teaser break into paragraph style body copy not into H1,H2 styles.
