CFMEU NSW C&G Wins National Award

CFMEU NSW Construction and General Division won ‘Best Workplace Campaign’ on 11 March, 2011 as part of the ACTU National Union Awards.

The union managed to save more than 700 workers’ jobs when Wideform, the company they were working for collapsed.

Since the collapse the union has secured over $6 million in payments to the workers. Not only did CFMEU secure money and entitlements for the workers but also managed to negotiate their re-employment after the collapse of Wideform.

“This is a great win for the union,” NSW State Secretary Mal Tulloch said on receiving the award.

“It’s not only recognition for the Union but for the workers themselves. We’re honoured to be accepting this award on their behalf.”

Workers got all their entitlements and money when they voted unanimously to stand together and ensure everybody was paid what they were owed.

The ACTU National Union Awards are an annual event sponsored by the ACTU and ME Bank to reward the unsung heroes of the union movement.
