Karabiner Failure Summary

After conducting a rigorous investigation into the failure of a Karabiner, SpanSet Australia have concluded that when Karabiners are used to connect Static Lines to Anchorages, the Karabiners can be subjected to unknown forces capable of inducing terminal failure of the Karabiner.

The combination of forces is primarily a product of the longitudinal force produced by the tension in the Static Line (unknown), and lateral forces across the body of the Karabiner, produced by the crowding effect of the attachment eyes and terminal fittings captured within the throat of the Karabiner.
